History of HMCC
The club was formed in 1992 by Jim McKie and David Young under the name of Hamilton Scalextric Club and was located in Blantyre, Scotland. The club grew from strength to strength attracting members from as far away as Ardrossan and Edinburgh. The track at that time was assembled at the start of each night and stripped down when racing was completed.
A new track was build in 1998 to replace the aging track and to provide a new challenge. Due to its size, it became impractical to go through the assembly process each night and it was decided that the club should find a new location so the track could remain set up all the time.
The track was moved to our current location of Larkhall in 2000. Due to the size of the premises, the track length had to be reduced to 100 foot in length. During this time the club hosted the first of many national competition events and many new racers became part of our club.
In 2004, the aging track was sold to Wolverhampton scalextric club and we recieved a lottery grant that allowed a new track to be built with the purpose of improving accessibility around the track and better utilising the premises. It also funded a new computer system with twin displays for both racer controller and racer, a lighting system to simulate night racing and club utilities such as tyre truers, club cars/controllers and new work benches.
